The human foot is the only foot in the animal
kingdom specially adapted to be able to walk
with the body upright. In other words, we humans
are the only animal that can walk in a vertical
position. Just like the foundation of a building
undergoes a lot of stress, so do our feet.
The very thing that was created to protect
our feet, causes most of our foot problems.
Shoes! If shoes do not fit correctly, they
can cause problems like blisters, wounds, corns,
calluses, even amputations.
For every one inch of heel height, about 25%
more pressure is transferred to the ball of
the foot. That is not the way we were designed
to walk! And, many women in the name of fashion
wear heels a lot higher than one inch.
Feet undergo other problems from walking barefoot
to not being able to walk at all. For example,
when walking barefoot, you can step on something
which opens your skin and causes loss of protection
from infection entering your body. If you have
poor circulation, diabetes, or other health
problems, you may have a decreased ability
to heal, and that small opening can become
as serious as losing your foot and not being
able to walk again. If one cannot walk, it
is important that preventative measures are
taken due to problems associated with immobility.
Remember, feet were made for walking.
Either way, it’s important to take care
of your feet, part of which includes wearing
proper fitting shoes.
Knowledge is power. Knowing how to take care
of your feet helps you prevent foot problems
and allows you to keep your feet forever.
I have specialized and been a leader in the
skin and wound field for over 25 years. People
who have diabetes are at increased risk for
foot problems, so I place a special emphasis
on the prevention and treatment of foot problems
when working with people with diabetes. I understand
though that foot problems are not limited only
to people who have diabetes and that most of
all people want shoes that not only feel good
but look good, too.
I want to help you if you have foot problems
and I want to help your company reach people
who are in need of preventative foot care and
shoes.
